The Wombats + Cloud Control + Eves Karydas: Live review and gallery | Riverstage | 30 November 2018

The Wombats got the party started at Riverstage on Friday night.

An outdoor, all ages concert in the first flushes of summer is always certain to bring out the joie de vivre. The youngsters were lining up before gates opened ready to party the warm night away. The lineup was completely fit for purpose. Up first was Eves Karydas (aka Eves the Behaviour and now using part of her original name Hannah Karydas). This North-Queensland-by-way-of-Brisbane lass was polished and assured on stage and belted out great pop / dance numbers that warmed the crowd well.

Following this came crowd pleasers Cloud Control from the Blue Mountains. The loss of their beloved bassist to fatherhood relatively recently hasn’t slowed them at all and they had the crowd singing and dancing along to all the faves from their three album releases.

Naturally enough though the denim skirt and boots set were really there for warm and cuddly imports The Wombats. Favourites of Australian crowds from their many visits they whipped the crowd to an arm-waving, screaming froth with hit after hit. So many sing a longs, chats between songs and an incredibly enthusiastic bass player. A whole bucket of fun and as a party act, they were surely just the beginning of the night’s frivolities.
