Single review: Euca | Not Champagne

If you’re after a break up song that will make you cry, ‘Not Champagne’ by Gold Coast singer/songwriter Euca is not your song. Despite its heavy theme of the confusion left by a sudden relationship break up, ‘Not Champagne’ is surprisingly catchy and upbeat, a real pop style sing-along.  The lyrics don’t dance around the pain, but the melody and edgy riffs woven around them take the sting out.

Euca describes herself as foremost a lyricist, packaging folksy story telling in a pop-rock parcel. ‘Not Champagne’ certainly backs up this description. If you are into class acts such as Middle Kids, Catfish & The Bottlemen then waste no time in diving into Eucas newest offering. You just may find yourself cheerfully singing, “sometimes I’m self destructive, I catastrophise my life and everything that I did.”

While ‘Not Champagne’ is the first release for Euca you would never know it from the smooth production and beautiful video. Euca has truly thrown herself into making music and advises us to “keep an ear out for the sing-songs to come, they’re going to take you somewhere balmy and sweet”.
