Russian virtuoso makes Australian debut on the Gold Coast

Russian powerhouse pianist Marina Yakhlakova will make her highly anticipated Australian debut with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO), performing at The Arts Centre Gold Coast at 7.30pm on Friday 4 April.

Yakhlakova’s explosive virtuosity will astonish in Saint-Saëns’ glorious Piano Concerto No.2. This program also features the talented and inspiring Greek conductor, Vassilis Christopoulos, leading the Orchestra in JS Bach’s Orchestral Suite No.1 and Beethoven’s Symphony No.7.

Christopoulos is the Chief Conductor of the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra and he became the youngest conductor to be appointed Artistic Director of the Athens State Orchestra in 2011.

In that same year, Yakhlakova was the winner of the prestigious International Franz Liszt Piano Competition. Since then she has been in international demand demonstrating an unusually large concerto repertoire for her young age of 23.
