The countdown is well and truly on to this weekend’s Groundwater Country Music Festival (CMF) 2021, and with an exceptional lineup of Australia’s best country music talent on offer, we thought we’d shine the spotlight on the Gold Coast stars who will be lighting up the stages.
Sunshine, warm weather and good times await as country comes back to the city with the exciting return of Groundwater to Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, from 12 – 14 November. Despite the persistent and ever-evolving impact of the pandemic, Groundwater CMF continues to respond and adapt to ensure the Gold Coast is set alight this November by the stars of Australia’s vibrant country music scene.
Among the exceptional line-up are a collection of talented musicians including Troy Cassar-Daley, Adam Brand, The Wolfe Brothers, Graeme Connors, Caitlyn Shadbolt, the Hillbilly Goats, Jade Holland, Taylor Moss and Sara Storer. But who are the must-see locals that will be wowing the crowds this weekend?
Two-time Artist of the Year at the Gold Coast Music Awards, Casey Barnes is nothing short of a homegrown superstar. It is Casey’s undeniable talent, paired with those iconic foot-stomping performances, and his happy go lucky attitude that have all attributed to his ongoing success in Australia and abroad. Fans can expect to see the country luminary’s consistently impressive vitality and killer performance chops on full display, with a massive set including all of his chart-topping hits. An absolute do-not-miss set.
Adam Brand is one of Australia’s most popular and successful recording artists. A stellar career spanning twenty years has seen him nominated for multiple ARIA Awards, win 12 Golden Guitars, sell over 600,000 CDs & DVDs, as well as earn 3 platinum & 5 gold albums. A fan favourite, he has won a record 7 CMC OZ Artist of the Year awards. So what is it about this charismatic male artist originally from the suburbs of Perth that has made him so successful? Adam Brand’s songs resonate as much with people from the suburbs as they do with those from regional and rural Australia. But the real key to Adam’s popularity is that he conjures up different feelings in different people and these feelings remain with listeners long after the last note.
Get Ready to welcome back Brook Chivell. After an engaging performance on the main stage at Tamworth Country Music Festival 2017, Toyota Starmaker Finalist, Brook Chivell climbed the national charts. His current single, ‘Country Kinda Guy’, is featured on some of the biggest Spotify country playlists and is currently in rotation on country radio all around Australia. He has performed at many of Australias biggest festival stages, Groundwater CMF, Tamworth CMF, Deni Ute muster, Gympie Music Muster, Sydney CMF plus many more, as well as touring nationally.
Brooke Supple has been hailed as a truly authentic talent performing to over 80,000 people at 250 + shows per year across Europe, America, the Maldives and Australasia. Her profile advanced to international acknowledgement when she was chosen to be the vocalist and guitarist for Sinead O’Connor and The Corrs, plus backing for Ellie Goulding, Jimmy Barnes and Kav Temperley of Eskimo Joe fame. Some of Brooke’s performances on television, radio and prestigious international venues/festivals include The Oprah Winfrey Show, Later with Jools Holland, the Sydney Opera House, Glastonbury Festival UK, WOMAD global festivals and Australia’s very own Tamworth CMF and Groundwater CMF.
24-year-old Gold Coast singer / Songwriter Chloe Styler can sing like an emotional, empowered angel, and has songs that she owns, lyrics of observation, heart and soul that she delivers with an intensity and commitment that make you believe she experienced the events and then wrote about them five minutes before she walked into the studio. Chloe Styler is a voice for our times. Hers is strong, powerful and committed. These are performances that are essentially contemporary but with an affectionate nod to what has come before. Chloe is seemingly destined to be at the forefront of young, focused and powerful Australian artists.
As three individuals, they are some of the most decorated and well respected musicians and songwriters in the Australian music scene. Each member of Hinterland is a “triple threat” – a singer, songwriter and master of their instrument. Hinterland might be a new band, but every single member has cut their proverbial music industry teeth many, many years ago. This is a group who has been around the block and now knows how to play, write and sing at the top of their game and with deep seated chemistry that can only come from over a decade of working together and being best friends and family.
Lily Grace is a young girl going big places. Already turning industry heads, collaborating with iconic Australian country artists and drawing strong crowds, this 15-year old talent from the Gold Coast is one of the most exciting female artists to emerge in recent years. A soloist whose seamless guitar-playing and mesmerizing voice belie her youth, Lily is a genuine, grounded performer who sings from the heart.
After a winning performance on the main stage at the Gympie Music Muster, Australian Contemporary-Country newcomer Natalie Pearson is making an impression! The contemporary-country songstress and vocal powerhouse continues to create a buzz in her community, earning recognition amongst well-respected Australian Country Music legends. Natalie has opened for big hitters in the music scene, such as The Wolfe Brothers, Lee Kernaghan, Adam Eckersley, Brooke McClymont, Adam Brand, Travis Collins, Casey Barnes, Jessica Mauboy and Karise Eden, and has performed at various festivals around Australia.
Round Mountain Girls
Simply one of the most thrilling live acts in Australia, Round Mountain Girls have toured with the Levellers, opened for The Zac Brown Band, Santana, and America; toured the UK (twice) and made friends around the world. If Mumford and Sons, The Pogues and Metallica had a three-way love-child it would be a Round Mountain Girl. Coined in the press as the finest purveyors of Celtabillypunkfolkrootsgrass in the southern hemisphere.
The Honey Sliders
The Honey Sliders are the retro-inspired blues/boogie project for three-time ARIA Award-nominated singer-songwriter Danny Widdicombe. The Honey Sliders have become renowned for their annual concept shows covering their favourite albums. Each year The Honey Sliders sell out venues with their respectful and mind-blowingly accurate recreations of blues, soul, country, and rock n roll masterpieces. Each member of the honey sliders has toured the world with their music and together they have over 80 years’ experience on some of the biggest stages anywhere.
These Idle Hands
Gold Coast locals, These Idle Hands is a collaborative union of like-minded musicians. Their music is best described as hauntingly retrospective, emotive and impressionistic alt-folk and Americana. The band are always refining and expanding their luminous acoustic balladry. Not afraid to explore the darker aspects of the human condition, their music at times conveys an intensely personal lyrical perspective.
Gritty. Grounded. Heartfelt. A standout performer. From energetic tracks such as the single ‘Countrified’ to emotive ballads like ‘Dear Dad’ and ‘Simple Then’ (with Brooke Schubert), it’s no surprise that Will is making an impact on the country music scene.
