Falls Festival, Byron Bay: Live review and gallery | Day 1 | 31 December 2018

Day One: 31st Dec

Ahhh Falls Festival. So many memories. So much sweat. So many shenanigans. Wallets down the composting toilet. Terrible all night music from the kebab van in the camping area. The temporary re-tasking of a mobile floodlight van to be a phone charging station (the camping youth were immensely grateful). And of course there was that year I was proposed to (#fiveyearsstrong). And so we find ourselves again at Falls ready to share the highs and lows, the tunes and the merriment with you.

Four Hot Acts for a Hot Day: Day One at Falls

  • Ocean Alley – the drummer’s shirt was off before the first song started. Chilled vibe had the crowd on their feet and swaying blissfully.
  • Cut Copy – festival faves brought the goods and set the early evening ablaze. Perfect intro leading into the New Year’s big guns in the Valley.
  • Dizzee Rascal – one of the two heavy hitters on night one had to pull out with a throat infection (very last minute). The grimey accented powerhouse sadly left the punters frothing for the wrong reasons.
  • Anderson .Paak – number two of the big names and Dr Dre’s protege brought in the New Year with banging beats and a hungry crowd, even though he missed the actual NYE moment by five minutes.
