It can be a headache working out your BIGSOUND live schedule and often plans get thrown out the window, but lucky for emerging hip hop rap artist B Wise, his set is one of the first on Thursday’s schedule here at BIGSOUND in Brisbane, along with Birdz and his much loved mentors A.B Original at The Elephant Hotel.
I had a quick chat with B Wise or Wise for short about his experience at his first BIGSOUND so far…
How did your gig go on Tuesday night?
The gig went good, quite a small, intimidate crowd with a killer line up like Nico Ghost who I heard for the first time last night.
What’s the biggest crowd you’ve played in front of?
I was the support for American hip hop artist Vince Staples at Max Watt’s in Sydney in front of around 1ooo people and the energy was amazing. Yeah the response and atmosphere was ridiculously amazing.
Are you releasing an EP soon?
I’ve got my debut EP coming out called Semi Pro on the 23rd September. It’s my first body of work and i’m feeling good about it. I’ve done mixed tapes in the past but this is my first official release. I’m feeling good about it because i was able to give a bit more of an honest perspective of who I am and tell my story a bit. There is a blend of upbeat fun party stuff and at the other spectrum there are tracks that are quite honest and reflective. The producer I worked with is called Dopamine, his influence has been some progressive trap beats whereas my influences are more West Coast type feel and he found a good place that’s modern but still Australian.
B Wise will be part of a 13 date tour with Hip Hop duo Horrorshow starting in October but if you want to catch him tonight, head to The Elephant Hotel in Fortitude Valley 8.50pm sharp.
